Happy Birthday, Miss C!
My baby is 3. I can't believe it...I don't know how the time has gone so quickly. It seems only yesterday I was huge and preggo...as this photo shows (taken a little less than 2 weeks before her birth):
I was on bedrest for about 4 months with Ryan due to preterm labor. I had been very lucky with Caroline...I had tons of contractions for months, but none seemed to do anything. I was at work on 10/10/05, teaching like normal. I was having lots of contractions, but nothing unusual until about lunch time. I remember sitting at the lunch table with my teacher friends and gripping the sides of the table while tears streamed down my face. After arguing for some time, one finally took me to the office and then things got crazy. They put me in the sick room, the school nurse came in, took one look at me, and called my OB. My friends were trying to get Shane, who was out to lunch with a buddy and ignoring the calls from an unknown number. Finally he answered and came to take me to the hospital. The entire time (even with the tears and pain) I was insisting I wanted to go home. I had no bags packed, my 2 year old was at daycare expecting mommy to pick him up, and it just wasn't time. Caroline had other plans...my contractions were real and were making changes...which was dangerous to me because of my placental abruption when Ryan was born by c-section. After a few hours, the doctors decided to perform the c-section and at 6:52pm, Caroline Grace was born. She was about 6 weeks early and had some early trouble with breathing, and for almost 2 weeks, lots of trouble with eating and gaining weight. She was the first NICU baby in our hospital's new NICU unit.
Even thought I got to see Caroline the day she was born, I didn't hold her until 2 days later...here's our very first bonding session.
Here she is, 5 days old, snoozing in the NICU...by that time, I had been release and we were traveling to the hospital 4 times a day so that I could nurse her. It was an exhausting experience, but every day I looked forward to the time I could go hold her close and be with her.
Six months later, Caroline was still a small, but doing great. She was also already incredibly beautiful.
Her first birthday party...Caroline loves being the center of attention and she loved her first party. She also loved her cake!!
Caroline, at her 2nd birthday party, has learned the princess roll quite well. Still loving to be the center of attention, she is smart, funny, and kind.
She had a wonderful year. She grew so much and learned so much. I decided to stay at home in April and I've loved all the time I've gotten to spend with her. She is by far the funniest, silliest, most wonderful little girl I've ever known. I'm so blessed to be her mommy and every day I thank God for the gift of my daughter.
Miss Caroline, newly 3 years old, in the shirt I made her for her birthday. She was so excited when she saw it...pointing to her photo saying "Me on the shirt!!! Me on the shirrrrrrrttttttt!!!! I'm thrilled she loves it...she looks adorable in it and I think her little friends and our family will love it, too.
